There are many types of addictions and they can take over out lifes, addiction involves craving for something intensely, loss of control over its use, and continuing involvement with it despite adverse consequences.
Addiction changes the brain, first by subverting the way it registers pleasure and then by corrupting other normal drives such as learning and motivation. Although breaking an addiction is tough, it can be done.
EMDR therapy can help alleviate or cure these controlling addictions and put your life back on track.
Here we quote from Dr Robert Miller Phd well known paper on the subject
The Feeling-State Therapy of addiction states that addictions are caused by a fixated memory called a feeling state(FS). The FS is created when a positive event is so intense that the memory of the event becomes fixated in the mind. Composed of the memory of the sensations, emotions, thoughts and behaviour of that event, the Feeling State, whenever it is triggered, creates the urges and cravings to do the behaviour contained within the fixated memory.
Feeling State Addiction Protocol (FSAP) eliminates addictions by eliminating the Feeling State. Once the Feeling State is gone, there is nothing left to cause the urges and cravings of the addiction.
FSAP is a modified form of EMDR. FSAP uses the bilateral stimulation approach of EMDR but differs from the standard EMDR protocol by focusing on the positive feelings underlying the addictive behaviour.
